Responsibilities

  • Support children, youth, and their families when they are required to attend a criminal court proceeding

  • Explain and provide information on the legal process

  • Liaise with the Crown Prosecutor throughout the day

  • Ensure that the family’s emotional and practical needs are met

  • Create and maintain a calm atmosphere in the waiting room at court

  • Accompany the children and families into the courtroom

  • Enhanced Security Clearance & Intervention Record Check

  • Mandatory training and shadowing with Justice Supports Team

 

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older

  • No record of a criminal offence

  • Can provide two references

  • Flexibility and ability to adapt quickly to change and an ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Commitment and ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information

  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and/or prior victim services work is an asset

Time Commitment

A minimum of two matters per month for one year.

*Please note: You must have full daytime availability for this role due to the operating hours of the Edmonton Law Courts.

Location

Primarily at the Edmonton Law Courts with some hours at the Zebra Centre (7th floor, 10909 Jasper Avenue).
