Join Us for the Party: A Q&A with the Ladies on the Green Committee
With its inception in 2014, Ladies on the Green began as a fun and non-competitive charity golf tournament, a place for women to come together to build friendships, expand their networks, and support their community. Held right after the golf tournament, the Garden Party, sponsored by Lucere Dermatology and Laser Clinic, serves as another opportunity where community-minded women can mingle, mix, and indulge, all in support of children and youth in Alberta.
We chatted with Ladies on the Green founders and committee members Emma Wynters, Carri Boulton, and Hannah Barrington to talk about the one-of-a-kind experiences awaiting guests at the Garden Party on July 19th:
Q: What can guests expect at the Garden Party?
A: An evening to remember, spent in the heart of the river valley, under the biggest tent we could find! Guests will shop the stunning jewelry of So Pretty Cara Cotter, have a shoe fitting from Poppy Barley, and taste the cocktail creations from the Old Fashioned Mobile Bar.
Mix, mingle, dine al fresco AND celebrate the incredible work being done at the Zebra Child Protection Centre!
Q: What is a favourite memory you have of the party?
A: Just one? We’ve had spontaneous dance numbers, surprise giveaways, and some really great meals at this party…
Q: What can guests expect to see in the silent auction?
A: This is not your run-of-the-mill silent auction. From classes and arrangements from an award-winning florist, a stay at the Fairmont JPL, chef’s tables from some of the city’s favourite restaurants, to personal training sessions, there is something to bring out that competitive streak in everyone!
Q: This event has raised over $200,000 to support the Zebra Centre – that’s a lot of organizing and passion! How did you begin this crazy adventure?
A: The format of this event began out of a frustration that in order to network, doing well at golf seems like a necessity. We wanted the incredible women we knew to have an opportunity to connect with each other without having to perfect their golf swings. Voilà, a golf tournament where the golf is optional! And it wouldn’t suit the women we knew unless it benefitted one of our favourite charities, so we chose the Zebra Child Protection Centre as the recipient of the funds raised.
Q: In addition to raising crucial funds, this is also a huge celebration of female empowerment. How are guests at the Garden Party empowered to make a difference?
A: Knowledge is power, and hearing about the essential services Zebra offers gives our guests the opportunity to support the children and families of our community when they need it the most. Every bit counts, and we provide many ways to give back at our event.
Q: How would you describe the party in 3 words?
A: Chic. Indulgent. Unforgettable.
Since 2014, Ladies on the Green has raised more than $200,000 in support of the Zebra Centre, with more than $60,000 raised in 2017 alone. In addition to the critical funds raised, the event has sparked a conversation on child abuse in our community, ensuring victims are heard and believed. We at the Zebra Centre are incredibly grateful to have such passionate women advocating on behalf of children and strengthening our community. Cheers to five years!
