Training in Child Friendly Interviewing

October 30, 2012

We know that interviewing the kids we see is one of the most important things we do and is an important evidentiary tool in the criminal justice system we are so involved with. The Zebra Centre was the scene of specialized training for 50 professionals working in Edmonton’s child protection community. These professions attended 3 days of training focused on developing expertise in the use of the Step Wise Guidelines developed by Dr. John Yuille.

Over the past 20 years, The Stepwise Interview Guidelines has become the standard in interviewing children and adolescents in cases of alleged child abuse. This program provides a model that minimizes the negative impact of the interview upon children; maximizes the quality of information obtained and allows investigators to tailor their interviews for the child or adolescent they are interviewing.

We would like to thank all those in attendance for taking the time to participate and learn and for demonstrating their belief in collaboration as we collectively work to be experts in this field.
